I just realized. If the Explorers join, won't they gain access to Terastal too?

In fact, what's stopping Spinel from joining just to acquire a Tera Orb?

It's quite literally a free power-up.

I assume its the explorers themselves that chose to go, rather than one of them deciding. Amethio probably just didn't decide to do it.

Depends, at least according to the game lore the Tera Orb isn't something just any trainer get, the Protag only has one thanks to Nemona.
Wouldn't be suprised if its a similar thing, The kids are only getting tera orbs because friede or someone pulled some strings.

Hmm okay, that makes more sense, I guess. Though it's also kinda f-ed up that some trainers are just denied access to it.

I wonder if there's some qualifications they have to meet in order to acquire one.

Interesting. I never noticed the Grevard in the initial school terestalization training arc promotional poster. Aside from that, I seeing some possible future foreshadowing of new pokemon the kids may end up getting with those pokemon star homages of promotional pokemon.

Seem like obvious pairings.

Unless each of them gets to battle every gym leader, but that somehow seems unlikely.

I'm not sure if Dot's going to battle. In the post Dephender posted which confirmed the battles, it just said Roy and Liko if I remember correctly.

She can still but who knows.

Considering the fact that battling the gym leaders here seems to be training to use Terastalization and we see that Dot has a Terra Orb it’s pretty safe to say that Dot will be battling the Gym Leaders too.
