Anyone who doesn't like the Lucario OST needs to be shot for having poor ears in music. So it's been a year since "The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon" debuted... (1) My 12 y/o brother hates classical music, but he loves Pokemon BGM. What do other kids want, rap?

God I hope not. I don't want to see anymore rap.

I remember a thread on a forum ages ago of a few fans wanting singers (rock bands) during battles in Pokemon like what Dragon ball Z did in a few dub movies. I wouldn't want that at all but I remember that thread very well.So it's been a year since "The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon" debuted... (4)

I think the fanbase is very large and it's just got too many wants from opposing sides. Probably why aims to change the dub for the better doesn't always get met.

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to start another debate. I respect your opinion, but I just really feel that a lot of the things you say, you actually know aren't true, but say them anyway to make PUSA seem worse than they really are.

Bulbagarden seems to be a lot more anti-PUSA than SPP, but for the most part, it seems to be pretty balanced.

Yeah, I've seen tons of PUSA haters on Serebii, someone even blamed Ash' losing streak in undubbed episodes on Sarah...-_-

That's awful. Whoever said that should really be ashamed of themselves. I was taught to respect other people and what I've seen of some of this fandom of the anime there tends to be a lack of it. Especially when it comes to the VA's whether it'd be old or new.

Unnecessary bashing is uncalled for but I guess it's like the 4kids bashing isn't it and it probably won't stop either. =(

Forgive me for feeling that hailing something like a gift from the heavens above all because of some scribbles on pieces of paper is blind praise.

You've forgotten one fact: bashing 4Kids is encouraged. Actually, two facts: bashing 4Kids is encouraged, and that is because the groupthink commands that all their actions are wrong.

Even things like leaving in all the text AND the Japanese version of "Make A Wish" on the Jirachi Wish Maker DVD.

Ah...it wouldn't be a The Great Butler post without gross oversimplifications and inaccurate hyperboles.

Who didn't give 4Kids props for that?!?

(besides that, 4Kids did erase the one instance of Japanese text in the actual movie itself)

I know people who called it a "copout" and derided them for "only translating half the song". Basically, even when they do right, people will call it wrong.

Well, I must admit I liked it better if they either resung the whole song into english or let the whole song in japanese. That half english, half japanese thing souds strange for me. Yes, it's not such big deal for me to bash 4Kids for it. But I don't think they do right in Make a Wish case.

Ooh, that one little line on the Magic Show poster. If you're going to throw a fit about something as trivial as that when the whole poster could've easily been erased and left as a picture of Butler, you're only proving my point in ways I could never do myself.

Also, I love that you feel the need to make a lowblow, personal attack at me to try and get your point across. Again, you fail, for that proves I've got the upper hand since I don't need to attack you when I easily could.

Has anyone seen the Japanese version of this special? I saw it back when it was streaming on that Japanese site, and I actually got the same awkward feeling watching that as I do whenever I watch the dub for the first time in months. I think the fact that I was watching this with the regular Japanese cast instead of a sound-alike cast was really off-putting for me.

I have a question. Was I the only person who lasted through the entire hour of the original Mastermind on KidsWB?

I just wanted to ask that out of curiosity....

Heh, I actually taped that when it aired on TV. It was so horrible, lol.

This is odd, but when I watched the Mastermind redub, I had pretty much the same feelings about the special (I didn't find it to be much different than the original, for some reason...).

Because with the redub, everything seemed basically the same as the original Mastermind, except for Ash's voice. But even that wasn't any better either, in my opinion.

Although, as of now, I can safely say that all the new VAs have improved a lot since Mastermind, even Sarah (but still, Sarah's way behind the other new VAs, in my opinion...).

I did, and I also taped it.

I'd have to watch both versions back-to-back (or "side-by-side," kind of) to really see the differences. Hmm... I ought to.

Kind of as I in didn't watch it off kid WB and that's due to the fact I don't live in America. I sat through the whole thing on Youtube at the time. I also found it somewhere else on the net and got a copy and burned it. The original version.=P

The redub was aired in Australia last year and I sat through that. Someone else in Australia sat through it and jumped on an Australian forum I'm on and stated it was the best thing he'd ever seen and he was serious mind you.

I guess to each his own I suppose.

I even taped the redub off TV in Australia with all the ads intack.

I remember the airing of the redub in Australia on normal TV. I think Nintendo Australia payed big for it because there was DS advertisem*nts, pokemon Mystery Dungeon advertisem*nts and even a DS competition (2 competitions). There was heaps of Nintendo ads and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon ads actually repeated themselves twice in adbreaks and then all the DS stuff was there aswell. Plus any show that was going to show at that time was kicked off air for the day and the whole thing was Mystery Dungeon and mastermind.

I watched the original airing all the way through. Besides the voices, which I'll admit were bad in the first airing, enough to actually join SOVA for a time, but I thought the special was very neat though.

Thank god Season 9 was much better than that. Just....thank god.

Eh, the voices DID sound better with the redubbed Mastermind.

The most noticeable ones were May and Brock. In the original Mastermind they both sounded terrible, (May sounded like she was 30 and had no emotion, and Brock had that gravel/chain-smoker tone in his voice), but in the redub their voices were much better and closer to their 4kids voices. Of course in Season 9 they got even better, but there's no denying they improved between the redubs.

To this day May and Brock are considered to have the best new voices in the redub. I'd also have to say Jessie drastically improved from the original Mastermind.

I'll agree that James, Meowth and Max were pretty much the same in both though. It wasn't until Season 9 that Meowth really improved.

Good work taking what I said out of context (...when the whole poster could have been erased) and continuing your ridiculous personal attack on me.

You know what? I'm done arguing with you. You have failed to make me angry, and you would continue to fail if this went on. Nothing you say to me from this point on will recieve any more than a glance as I move past it to the next post. I certainly do hope you enjoy stewing like a lobster in the boiling pot of whatever is causing you to continually attack me, for that's a pot I plan to put on the stove and forget about.

I still own the tape of it myself, it's nestled nicely between The Symbol Life and The Legend of Thunder. Once in a while I watch it and wonder how things would be if Kayzie was given a fair chance, since her performance---though still dismal---at least showed the emotion Sarah still struggles with after a full season.

I agree with you, Butler.

Kayzie is much better than Sarah, when it comes to giving Ash emotion.

On the other hand, with voice acting, I'd say Sarah and Kayzie are equal to each other.

Anyway, I'm sure everyone knows how I feel about Veronica. She really brought Ash to life, because of how much emotion she gave him. It was really amazing.

I really wish Sarah could do that. Then her Ash voice wouldn't be so hard to tolerate. Because if she's able to get the emotion down, that's one less thing I'll have to worry about.

Ash's personality becoming more like Sarah's, well that's another matter entirely....
